WCEMP2008 - The 2008 Workshop on Advanced Computing for Critical Systems
and EMergency Preparedness and Response
http://www.ufscar.br/wcemp2008/
July 12-18, Sao Paulo, Brazil
In conjunction with The
11th IEEE Intl Conf on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE2008)
http://www.icmc.usp.br/~cse08/
In Safety critical systems failures can lead to live and economic losses. When disaster occurs,
effective emergency preparedness and response systems can,in many cases, greatly minimize the
losses. Advanced computing has been increasingly used to potentialize the effectiveness of these
complex systems.
The Workhop on Advanced Computing for Critical Systems and Emergency Preparedness and Response
will be a one-day workshop, held in conjunction with the 11th International Conference on
Computational Science and Engineering.
This workshop aims to address the grand challenges of advanced computing when applied to better
support critical systems and emergency preparedness and response systems. The workshop will provide
a forum for researchers of different areas of advanced computing to discuss how these areas can be
used to improve the effectiveness of emergency preparedness and response systems when applied to
critical areas such as air traffic control, Avionics, Public transportation, Industrial Plant and
Process Control, Command and Control,Surveillance, etc.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Autonomic computing
- Embedded and ubiquitous computing
- Distributed Simulations
- Security, Privacy and Trust
- Grid, P2P and Web Services
- Advanced networking (wireless sensor networks, vehicular ad hoc networks, mobile ad hoc networks,
and WLANs, WPANs, WMANs and WWANs).

Paper Submission
Authors are invited to submit research contributions representing original, previously unpublished work,
in PDF format with 5-10 keywords following the IEEE CS format. Submitted papers will be carefully evaluated
based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition. Final version of
accepted papers should be at most 6 pages and will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press as CSE-08
workshop proceedings. At least one author of accepted papers are requested to register and present their
work at the conference, otherwise their papers will be removed from the IEEE Digital Library after the
conference.
Please submit your paper to the workshop through the submission page of CSE-08 Workshops
(at http://cse.stfx.ca/~cse08workshops/sub/)
The IEEE instructions and template files for preparing papers are available at
