========================================================

Recent years have seen rapid advances in various grid-related
technologies, middleware, and applications. ChinaGrid Project,
an important 211 project funded by Chinese Ministry of Education,
aims at integrating heterogeneous mass resources distributed in
the China Education and Research Network (CERNET), sharing those
resources in the CERNET environment effectively and avoiding the
resource islands, providing useful services, finally forming the
public platform for research and education in China.

The 3rd ChinaGrid Annual Conference (ChinaGrid 2008) is to be held
from August 20 to 22, 2008 in Dunhuang, Gansu, China. Dunhuang is
world-widely known for its most worthy of scenery, such as Mogao
Grottoes (also known as the Dunhuang Grottoes), Crescent Moon Spring

*About Dunhuang, P.R.China*

Throughout Dunhuang's history over two thousand years, it has always served as a
critical gateway to the west, because of its unique geographical location at the
juncture of Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang. As a result, throughout the Chinese long
history, several emperors have made improvements of these western fortifications.
However, Dunhuang was also a regional cultural center. The Mogao Grottoes, also
known as the Dunhuang Grottoes or the "Thousand Buddha Grottoes", is located on
the western cliffs of the Singing Sands Mountains. It is one of the most complete
collections of Buddhist frescoes and sculpture from a period range over ten
dynasties.

Among all of Dunhuang's attractions, the Mogao Grottoes (also known as the
Dunhuang Grottoes) are definitely the most worthy of scenery. This site boasts the
largest collection of Buddhist grottoes in existence in China. Many of the 492
grottoes here date back as early as one thousand years ago (covering a period of
ten dynasties). Perhaps the most famous aspect of Dunhuang's grottoes is the
murals that feature Buddhist stories, folk culture, farming and hunting as their
main themes. Meanwhile, Dunhuang, the Ancient City, isn't exactly what you might
think it is. It is actually a gigantic movie set where you can get a feel for
ancient Dunhuang. However, for the real thing, you can explore the Yang guan Pass
and Yumen guan Pass great ruins that protect the real Ancient City of Dunhuang
from western barbarians and invaders. Dunhuang also prides itself on its charming
natural beauty. Crescent Moon Spring and the Singing Sand Mountains are fantastic
way to experience the desert landscape of Dunhuang.
