Workshop on Ad-Hoc Wireless Networks WAHOC'07: Urban Legends and Reality
http://www.wahoc.imcsit.org
Part of International Multiconference on Computer Science and Information
Technology IMCSIT'07
http://www.imcsit.org
Date and Location: October 15-17, 2007, Wisla, Poland
Organized in cooperation with the IEEE Computer Society (Poland Chapter),
and the Systems Research Insititue of the Polish Aademy of Science, by
the Polish Information Processing Society,
As a concept, wireless ad-hoc networking has been around for at least 20
years, but, despite the extensive coverage in academic literature, its
practical success so far has been less than spectacular. Most
contemporary attempts at exploiting the ad-hoc paradigm in real-life
applications fall into the realm of sensor networks, where it promises
low-cost, ease of deployment, flexibility, reliability, resilience and
ubiquity. However, few practical deployments of sensor networks are
actually ad-hoc based: there seems to be a considerable reluctance in
the industrial world to embrace "mesh networking," and most actual
solutions are based on asymmetric schemes involving various flavors of
access points or base stations. The purpose of this workshop is to get
to the roots of that reluctance. We solicit papers addressing the
practical aspects of ad-hoc wireless networking, with stress on case
studies and empirical verification of ideas. We shall not shy away from
negative conclusions, as long as they are well supported. The list of
topics includes (but is not limited to):
* routing protocols for ad-hoc wireless networks
* medium access control schemes
* modeling methodologies for wireless channels
* simulation systems and techniques
* performance studies and comparisons
* case studies (ad-hoc networks at work)
* security issues in ad-hoc networking
* asymmetric wireless networks with ad-hoc components
* cooperation issues at the MAC and network layers
* pricing and incentive arbitration in ad hoc mesh topologies
Prospective authors are invited to submit full papers up to 10 pages
LNCS style (details on the web page). Accepted and presented papers will
be included in the Conference Proceedings and published on a CD (ISSN
1896-7094). Extended versions of selected papers will be consider for
publication in a special issue of an International Journal (to be
announced later).
Important dates:
June 25, 2007: Submission of full papers
August 6, 2007: Notification of acceptance
September 7, 2007: Camera-ready versions of accepted papers
