New Generation Computing
Special Issue Call for Papers

New Generation Computing welcomes contributions for a special issue:
Web-based Recommendation Systems Technologies and Applications
Edited by Janusz Sobecki
(Planned for Vol.26, No.3 May 2008)

Web-based Recommender Systems are recently applied to provide different
type of customized information for their users. They are applied in many
areas such as: web-browsing, information filtering, net-news or movie
recommender, and E-commerce. The central element of all recommender
systems is the user model that contains knowledge about the individual
preferences which determine his or her behavior in a complex environment
of web-based systems. User modeling as well as recommender systems are
characterized by cross-fertilization of various research fields such as:
Information Retrieval, Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge
Representation, Discovery and Data/Text Mining, Computational Learning
and Intelligent and Adaptive Agents. The alternating information
environment that is combined of various users, their needs and contexts
of use as well as different system platforms necessitates application of
recommender systems.

TOPICS

The guest editor welcomes the submission of original papers addressing
the problems of Web-based Recommender Systems technologies and their
applications. Authors should submit papers presenting novel approaches
for existing problems as well as original and significant results in
theoretical, methodological and application aspects.
Theory papers should present significant results and applications papers
should demonstrate precise practical evaluations and/or comparisons that
clearly make their technical and scientific contribution.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to following areas:
• E-learning in the web environment
• Hyperlink recommendation
• Information retrieval and filtering
• Mobile recommender systems
• Multi-agent systems
• Personalization processes
• Product recommendation
• User interface recommendation
• Web browsing

The intent of the editor is to give priority to contributions to the
Workshop on Recommender Agents and Adaptive Web-based Systems that was
organized at KES 2006 Conference, as well as some other contributions on
Recommender Systems presented at KES 2006 and KES 2005.
