Dear TCSC Colleagues:

1. I would like to share message (attached at the end) from Stephanie White,
Vice President of IEEE CS's Technical Activities Board. The Society will see
the merger and creation of a new, single board looking after the TAB and
Conferences and Tutorials activities.

2. Regarding TCSC: We have just concluded e-Science 2007 conference, which was
highly successful - the conference was well attended. The event, Society, and
TCSC has been featured extensively in the media paving the way for enhancing
the profile of IEEE and TCSC in emerging economies like India. Pls check out
news clips at:
  http://www.escience2007.org/presscoverage.asp

3. As the deadline for submitting budget request for the next year TCSC
programs/activities was Dec. 15, we have already submitted our request.
Considering the success of TCSC sponsored activities this year, I am sure TCSC
will have sufficient funds next year to continue our key programs initiate
and support new interesting programs.

4. TCSC has been interacting with the IEEE CS for establishing high-profile
Annual Award like ones established by Software Engineering community. The new
award titled "IEEE Medal for Excellence in Scalable Computing" will recognise
a member of our community for (1) his/her innovative R&D work in Scalable
Computing and (2) outstanding services to TCSC activities sustained over a
period of 2 or more years. A "DRAFT" plan is attahced. Final details will be
announced soon.

With this brief note, let me wish you all wonderful holidays and a very happy
and prosperous new year.

Cheers
Raj

Hi Stephanie and Colleagues:

Thanks for your great work in the last two years. Right now TCSC is conducting
election for the next chair and we have encouraged two of TCSC's active
volunteers to run for the position as it will provide them new opportunities
to serve TCSC and our community. Of course, I will actively support the new
elected chair from the background.

We just concluded one of TCSC conferences (e-Science 2007), which was highly
successful in all aspects technically, socially, financially. Also, this event
was featured in Indian media prominently. Pls check out news clips at:
  http://www.escience2007.org/presscoverage.asp

I also presented a brief talk on IEEE CS and its activities and membership
benefits. I believe this will enhance membership of CS from this part of the
world.

We have initiated a TCSC sponsored award titled "IEEE Medal for Scalable
Computing" - pls see attached document for details. Our aim is to make it as a
regular CS award presented once a year. If you have any on how to make this
happen, please let me know. I have also CCed this to John and may be he can
supply us details...

Thanks
Raj
